5 Reasons Why Chad Robichaux Could Beat Zach Makovsky

Hello once more fans and friends and welcome back to part two of another two-part entry into my series “5 Reasons Why”. This particularly two-parter focuses on the impending showdown between Bellator Bantamweight Champion Zach Makovsky and unbeaten challenger Chad Robichaux. Although the title may not be on the line, Robichaux would certainly be a championship contender were it not for Bellator’s tournament format. For the first part of this two-parter, click here. Now let’s focus on five reasons why Chad Robichaux could beat Zach Makovsky.
5. Makovsky may have a submission game, but Robichaux’s looks better on paper.
Chad Robichaux has competed eleven times. He’s won every single time, and has won only one time by decision. The other ten times have all ended the same way: with Chad Robichaux submitting his opponents. Chad Robichaux is not just a submission specialist, he’s a submission artist.
4. Robichaux has submitted a majority of his opponents in the first round.
Makovsky does deserve credit for finding ways to submit opponents in the final frame of the fight, but very few things are as impressive as submitting your opponent in the first round. And “Robo” has eight first-round submission wins on his record. Not only that, but his personal best time for winning by submission was fifty seconds. And to top it all off, he has at least six wins by submission that have occurred in three minutes or less.
3. Having fought in Strikeforce, Robichaux knows what it feels like to compete under pressure.
Chad Robichaux is a far cry from Nick Thompson, who competed against Bellator Champion Ben Askren in the middle of a three-fight losing-streak. Robichaux has been to the big stage before: his last fight was in Strikeforce, back when Strikeforce rolled through my neck of the woods and booked a show in Houston, Texas. As far as I’m concerned, the pressure of fighting in an “Arena Series” Strikeforce event is nearly as high as the pressure of going up against a Bellator title holder. Robichaux may have to adapt once the cage door closes, but having been in a high-pressure situation before will be an invaluable tool.
2. Zach Makovsky has been submitted twice.
It’s true that Makovsky has some wins by submission, but he’s also been submitted on two separate occasions. That may be only a small hole to exploit if Makovsky was going up against almost anyone else. But as previously stated, Chad Robichaux is on an entirely different level when it comes to submissions. The fact that Makovsky has been submitted prior to this fight could end up being a big weakness for him and a big confidence-booster for Robichaux.
And the number-one reason why I think Chad Robichaux could beat Zach Makovsky is…
1. Chad Robichaux is unbeaten.
With a nickname like “Robo”, you better be able to back it up in the cage. Chad Robichaux does just that. He may have just come back after a four-year absence, but he’s now three fights into his comeback. The ring rust from that layoff has been shaken off, and the best thing about all this is that Chad remains unbeaten. So long as he keeps this hotstreak going, Robichaux will probably add a championship to his name by the end of the year. The fact that he’s still winning left and right is definitely the biggest reason why I think he could win this fight.
So that’s what I think, fans and friends. One more time: it’s Zach Makovsky vs. Chad Robichaux. Who’ve you got winning and why?
