As someone who made his UFC debut in his late 20s and is now seemingly at the tail-end of his career just when it was really getting started there’s no doubt Kenny Florian could benefit from the use of a banned substance to help him heal faster or improve his overall fitness. However, to do so would mean crossing a line the former title-contender and TUF finalist has no interest in breaching.
Florian addressed the issue of performance enhancing drugs on this week’s episode of UFC Tonight in light of Alistair Overeem’s recent hit for a grossly elevated level of testosterone in his system where he made his stance clear.
“As a clean fighter the whole issue of performance enhancing drugs in MMA really pisses me off,” explained Florian in a closing segment. “This sport is about honor, technique, and discipline. When did it become about who uses the better PEDs and who can past the test better than the other guy?”
To help curb the issue, if given the power, Florian would implement out-of-competition screenings similar to the one producing Overeem’s eyebrow-raising result.
“Don’t do it, dummies,” said Florian flatly. “Random testing needs to be the remedy. This is gonna be one of the only ways we’ll crack down on cheaters in this sport in the long run.”
