Dana White Unhappy with Anderson Silva after UFC 112: Spoiler
By: Reverend Turk Vangel Posted On: April 10, 2010 at 7:12pmDana has been calling Fighters.com and UFC middleweight champion “The Spider” Anderson Silva (26-4) the pound for pound best fighter in the world. Today as Silva was defending his title against sixth-ranked Demian Maia (12-2) at UFC 112 Dana walked out of the fight. If you have yet to watch the fights then do not read any further.
That’s right, the UFC president walked out when the man he calls the pound for best was still fighting, if that is what you want to call what Silva was doing inside the Octagon.
Silva came out doing some serious show-boating and taunting for the first three rounds of the fight. He went so far as to actually kneel a couple of times. He danced, juked and jived around Maia hurting him a few times and kept taunting Maia instead of doing what a champion should do, finish his opponent.
The final two rounds had Silva doing his best imitation of Kalib Starnes (9-4-1) as he ran around the Octagon avoiding Maia. He ran so much that referee Dan Miragliotta halted the fight in the final round and warned him that if he kept running and did not engage he would deduct a point. This would have been the perfect time to see the yellow card from Pride FC that deducted ten percent of a fighter’s pay. Joe Rogan made a similar comment moments after I tweeted the same thing.
According to Rogan, at the end of the fourth round Dana walked up to Ed Soares and “had a few words” with the man known for managing Silva. Dana having words with you while your fighter is still fighting can’t be a good thing.
Another report from Yahoo correspondent Kevin Iole stated that White threw down the title belt in and walked out of the arena. You really can’t blame Dana for showing the fighter disrespect as he was showing zero respect for Maia, the UFC or for the fans.
Dana brings the UFC to Abu Dhabi for the first time with plans on expanding throughout the middle east and this is how the champion behaves? How can a company build a new fan base when their middleweight champion who they are billing as the best in the world acts like a child inside the Octagon and taunts an opponent that he was unable to finish?
In the aftermath of the awful performance Dana said “This one took the cake. I am blown away, disgusted and saddened” Dana was then asked about the potential super fight with Fighters.com and UFC welterweight champion “Rush” Georges St. Pierre (20-2). His response was very interesting; “I don’t want to see GSP vs. Silva after tonight. Silva might be the first champion fighting on a prelim. I don’t want to see that [expletive]”
Those are very harsh words from the UFC president that obviously come from his frustration. The very same frustration fans and journalists were sharing on Twitter this morning. Many were giving Georges a hard time for his last fight but in that fight he actually pushed and tried to finish the fight, Silva never once came close and yet acted like he could have at anytime.
We as fans of MMA know that not every champion can finish their fights but I think it is reasonable for fans to to expect them to at least try and put away their opponent.
During the post fight presser Anderson said he wanted to punish Maia for disrespecting him. I am unaware of any disrespect that he has shown Silva but if that was the case, would he not want to knock him out to make a point? Nothing Silva can say at this point will make a difference. Dana is angry, the fans are livid and the journalists and bloggers have plenty of material to keep them busy for a while.
The actions displayed inside the Octagon today by Anderson Silva should not be tolerated in a sport built around respect. Dana has every right to be angry and it is nice to see him feeling the same way as the fans. Anderson Silva lost quite a few fans due to this fight and I am sure many will now hope that anyone he fights knocks him out.
Welcome to the ranks of another UFC champion Silva, heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar (4-1).

Actually, I believe that Anderson Silva so believes the “hype” that the media and fans have cast upon him as the second coming of Bruce Lee, that he is afraid of losing and tarnishing his god-like reputation. Silva is vulnerable to take-downs. Travis Lutter and Dan Henderson demonstrated that. However, they were unable to close the deal. Silva is also susceptible to submissions. That was shown in his Pride days. When Silva encounters competitors who transcend his Jui-jitsu skills, he seeks to avoid any trace of physical contact and or grappling.
What a joke, i love the UFC and have for a while now, i pay my hard earned money to get every pay per view on, even if it is at 3am australian time, but right now i feel ripped off and cheated, and i guarantee i will never pay to watch that disrespectful scumbag again, Silva has lost track of all reality and he clearly thinks the UFC is a joke, if Dana doesn’t take action on this fool, well i dont know where i will stand if nothing is done, you say Dana you want to make it up to the fans but you dont know how, here’s an idea, give us our F$#*en money back for the worst pay per view in UFC history.
Silva fight sucked should have taken his belt. Don’t want to fight don’t take my money and get in the ring to fight and run around in circles. I have many people that watch the fight with me they said never again.!!! dANA YOU HAVE TO TALK TO THESE JERKS BEFORE THEY FIGHT!!!! wHO THE F DOES THIS j OFF THINK HE IS!!!!!!!!!!!
If Anderson Silva is going to show boat like he did Dana, Then make him Fight Machida, and see if if he showboats then ! As a mma fan, I think that the fight between GSP, and Silva should not happen just yet. He should be made to fight Machida period. I am very disappointed with his actions.
Congrats to Matt Hughes, and especially to Frankie Edgar.
I cant belive I had to pay to watch Silva “not fight”….we should get some compensation from that…I hope he NEVER gets to fight GSP…….
we here in BC do not need our Canadian fighters disrespected by Anderson…
Unable to finish? You cannot be serious. Lost fans? Think of who he gained. There’s more to this than we know and honestly, he had to fly out to the Middle East to fight this guy who is OBVIOUSLY not ready. He didn’t stand a chance. Silva left his hands down for 5 rounds and it took 4 for Maia to actually hit him. Maia should not have been given the fight when he stood absolutely no chance. NO CHANCE. Call it disrespect if you will, but I’ll call it “making a statement”.
Anderson has to fight GSP next at 170! Good luck Anderson!!!
i would have love that if he did it to victor belford because he would have smashed him up,bare in mind maia got a few clean punches so if he was fighting a good stand up fighter then it would be a different story..really happy more shocked due to the fact we have a new lightweight champion well done franky edgar he beat one of the best MMA fights good win..!!hope ufc 113 is good
just because anderson silva didn’t give his usual spectacular performance doesn’t mean that dana white should come down on him!!! it was very plain to see that demian maia isn’t in silva’s league!!! i think that silva felt unchallenged by maia hence the performance!! bet when he fights gsp you’ll see a different silva!!!!
@Max
He gained no new fans. I have been receiving endless emails, twitter messages and text messages about this and not one person liked what Silva did.
I think Maia needs more time to work his stand up but the fact is, you are the champ…you fight when, where and who the UFC tells you and like it!
What statement did he make? That he could not put away a guy who got KOed from one punch? That he would rather run in circles than to engage Maia?
all yall some hatters he punked maia and if u got shit to say u stand in th cage wit silva the boi is the best period
You guys are delusional if you think Silva couldn’t finish that fight had he wanted to. And yes, he did gain new fans. I had people with me watching UFC for the first time and they were in awe at
Silva. I liked what he did. There was no reason for him to fight Maia.
“I think Maia needs more time to work his stand up but the fact is, you are the champ…you fight when, where and who the UFC tells you and like it!”
Exactly. He went there, and fought in a way that HE could enjoy it. He wouldn’t like it if all his training went towards one flying knee that brought about the finish. Did you actually watch the fight? Give me one other fighter who can break a guys nose and swell his opponent’s eye shut while dancing. His statement was clear: disrespect The Spider and he’ll devour your pride.
i was reading shael sonnen’s comments on the fight network and i hope that anderson silva gets the chance to shut sonnen’s mouth!! does sonnen really think that he’s that good? not even in silva’s league!!!!
Worst card in UFC history. This did not win any new fans but turned a bunch of potential fans off. It felt like 3rd rate boxing – both fights. If I want to see boxers, I’ll turn to a boxing PPV. At least I’ll have a chance of seeing some punches being thrown and not the sloppy display I witnessed last night.
Silva wants a battle and Dana can’t provide one. What do u all expect?
@alvin
To bad he probably won’t be fighting GSP….
I don’t care what everybody says, I have seen practically every one of Silva’s fights, and he undoubtedly is the best UFC middle weight in the history of the sport, and arguably the best 185 pounder in the world. That cannot be taken away from him. He clearly does not want to be fight in that weight class anymore. I would be disrespected if I was Silva and Dana White throws Demian Maia at me for my next title defense. In the galaxy of MMA, Maia isn’t even on the same fucking planet and that is a fact. There is no one at 185 that can touch Silva. He needs to be fighting guys that aren’t afraid to strike him. Yeah Silva danced around, but how about Maia? He didnt make too much more of an effort to hit Silva because he couldn’t, that ain’t Silva’s fault…. and I will admit the fight was boring especially after the 3rd round. Silva should have ended it and yes, he could have ended it at any time he wanted. He was hitting Maia at will like he was standing still. I think Anderson was 100% making a point, he is way too intelligent of a person to act like that for no reason. And no he is not an arrogant prick either like Brock or somebody. I don’t consider what he did as showboating. Anderson felt that Maia disrespected him as a fellow Brazillian Jui Jitsu black belt by the comments he made. When talking about the fight Maia was talking like an arrogant prick, showing no respect to Andersons abilities. He definately proved a point
honestly, i agree with anderson silva completely. a fight is more mental than physical in my opinion and what silva did was to make sure that anyone who wants to get in the ring with him better prepare himself mentally for some humiliation and of course a beatdown.
I hate how you assholes compare this to the other two fights too. In the fight vs Thales Leites all Silva was doing was sabotaging Thales’ game plan which was to get him to the ground,. Why even give Thales the opportunity. Thats like telling a guy like Brock “I’ll give you the first punch…” Anderson knew Thales was fucking good on the ground so he avoided it, just like Leites was avoiding standing up with Anderson. No fucking different in mentality. Everybody had their panties in a bunch because Anderson didn’t go out and finish him with a fucking flying scissor heel hook or something ridiculous. A fight is a fight, anything can happen. People think a “good fight” is seeing highlight reel striking for 3 rounds, fuck that shit. Would he put yourself and your belt in danger because everybody wants to see you doing something crazy every time? No. Period. WITH ALL DUE RESPECT TO DANA BUT THAT SHIT WAS HIS FAULT, HE SAW WHAT HAPPENED WHEN ANDERSON FOUGHT LEITES, WHY WOULD HE PUT HIM IN THERE WITH A GUY LIKE MAIA, A GROUND FIGHTER WITH NO STANDUP. Anderson needs someone that is able and not afraid to engage him. Look at the forrest fight, even though Forrest got destroyed he was not afraid to try and hit him. Why couldn’t Maia try to do that? Yeah Forrest is a much better striker but my point is that Maia didn’t want to stand up. That fight sucked and in my opinion to me its Dana and Maias fault just as much as it is Andersons fault.
Very well said, Reverend Turk Vangel!!! Silva made a commitment. He signed a contract. Regardless of whether or not Maia’s in the same league, Silva should’ve done his job and he should’ve done it right. It’s expected out of us in our careers and it’s expected out of him in his. White has every bit of right to be upset. I have mixed thoughts of where I’d like to see him placed on future cards. It wouldn’t hurt my feelings to see him as a prelim fighter while, as the Reverend stated, Brock Lesnar would be worth watching (something my son and I have already discussed). I’d also be happy to see Silva drop down a weight class so we could all enjoy watching St. Pierre sink his showboat!
Some of you guys are kidding, if you actually think that what silva did was ok than you are not real UFC fans, just ask yourselves was that fight in anyway shape or form good for not only the UFC but MMA in general, this is a sport built around respect, just look at the real champions like Machida, GSP, BJ Penn now Frankie Edger, and highlight the words REAL CHAMPIONS, silva’s actions where not that of a champion they were the actions of a man who does not respect other fighters, the UFC, the sport and clearly the fans.
If it’s built around respect, then why did Maia insult him? Dont be a hippocrit. It’s okay to insult Silva’s BJJ but not okay for Silva to insult you AS he demolishes you in the ring. So he didnt kill the guy.. so what.. you think Brock Lesnar’s fights are more interesting? Maybe you dont know how superb a display Spider put on those first few rounds.
Anderson Silva spoke of disrespect. I don’t think he knows the meaning of the word. All martial artists as well as UFC fans now have a clear picture of the meaning thanks to Silva. Mr. White and his fighters have all be disrespected by his actions. I know I will not pay to see another Silva fight.
Do you honestly believe that he could have possibly made new fans in the Middle East? We’re talking about a place where there is no option for disrespecting people, and when the “champion” comes in and acts like a dick, the UFC has lost face here, and I wouldn’t be supreised if it was nearly impossible to have another show in the Middle East, unless they didn’t see the fight. If you want to make a statement, you don’t dance around and avoid competition, you end it quickly, or fuck up the person for five rounds, not catch him every once in a while. Punishment is not the word for what he did. He’s been spending too much of his time dancing like Michael and not training, maybe that’s his problem. Either way, we need to give him an uncomfortable situation, make him fight in heavyweight, make him fight his friends, I don’t know, but if I was Dana, Anderson Silva would go through hell before he leaves the UFC. Having a cocky bitch as champion saddens everyone, he could at least finish the fight. He has lost my respect.
@Max
So everyone keeps saying they agree with Silva. How about self respect, dignity, discipline. These are attributes of a martial artist. What point did he prove, that Maia was not in his league. Point taken we all knew that, I think the only point he made was showing Dana that he has no respect for Dana, for the sport or the organization. If he wanted to show everyone that he was so much superior than Maia how about a 30 second knock out. Instead he danced around like a moron for 2 1/2 rounds and then retreated for 2 1/2 rounds. What he did was embarrassing for him, the UFC, and Maia. If he is so good and no one can touch him, how about Silva vs Valasquez. What happens when the guy your fighting ain’t scared to swing at you. I think Dana should take away his chance at fighting GSP, until he fights Valasquez, and televise it for free, so everyone can see what happens when you act like a moron in a PPV event.
@ Etienne D.
“We’re talking about a place where there is no option for disrespecting people”
Watch the fight again. The crowd was LAUGHING. Everyone was loving it until he pulled back and stopped pressing the action.
Personally this is the first time i’ve ever felt embarrassed to be a martial artist and an MMA fan – UFC events vary in quality, thats to be expected and I dont regret paying the money as there were other reasonable fights on the show but Silva is an embarassment plain and simple.
Second coming of Bruce Lee my ass.
Martial Arts are built around respect something Silva clearly lacked for his opponent, for the company he works for and for the fans who paid their hard earnt money to watch him fight.
You guys making out this is a good thing are mental, you want to see this kindve crap regularly? Then watch some soap opera like the WWE because in a sport based around discipline and respect this kind of crap has no place!
I rated Silva before this fight, now I cant wait to see him get flattened, best ever? I dont think so, GSP has the full package including discipline and respect and I really hope we get to see that fight happen!!
I used to watch every UFC fight, but since i lost my self employed status i’ve had to limit my
PPV to fights that i really thought would be relevant or unforgettable, what im trying to say
is ” Who will anderson silva beat up next?” Now i will only watch his fights thinking ” I hope this guys kicks the crap out of this a-hole anderson silva!”
gsp is a bitch he lays on people for the whole fight and if he beats anderson it will be in that way he will lay on anderson for 5 rounds honestly i dont care to see that fight.what anderson did was wrong but in a way he made a statement he went in with a top fighter and danced around him. at points he put his arms down and stuck his chin out and maia did nothing.
@Reverend Turk Vangel
I think the statement was clear. Dana White has squandered a world class talent with talentless opponents. Silva is sick of being bored and going out just to KO some hopeless sap and collect a check. He wants a real fight and his song and dance was to say that he wont fight unless he gets a proper challenge. I can say that it sucks that fans who paid their money to see a fight do not get it but any great fighter gets sick of being let off their lease for a predictable round one KO. And if you say that Silva didnt finish the fight because he couldnt you are an ass. Anyone who watches this man fight knows that he can put ANYONE away. GSP included. If you think Damien lasted 5 because Silva couldnt close the deal you are an idiot. I know everyone is in a huff about this but I can’t blame Silva. As a Silva fan it pisses me off that he can’t get a real opponent more than the fact that he refused to finish the fight. Most people who watch MMA watch for cheap short KOs and that is it. I could care less about a KO. I want a fight. I want to see the best get pushed to their limits. That is Dana Whites job to make sure that happens. If it doesnt happen it is on him.
If you want to see that kind of bs entertainment go watch the wrestling soaps Max!
brad : he didn’t need to psych his opponent he could have beaten him on the second round there was no reason to act like this! I used to be a hardcore fan of his but after this fuck him!
For all the people who agree with what silva did, good for you and good for him because he can keep taking the money out of your pockets, have some respect for yourselves or keep paying his income for putting on all the shit he puts on, or you could just give your hard earned to hooker cause at least she will pretend to wanna be there and put on a show.
You dont tell Michael Jordan how to play basketball, or mother Theresa how to feed the poor. And you don’t tell Anderson Silva how to fight! At best, you lace em up and try to let your hands to the talking.
Maia ran from Silva until Spider got tired of chasing him and had to slow down. But oh yeah, Silva is the bad guy. It’s so easy to turn on him, why? B/c you’re haters who dont and cant fight. And you never liked the fact that he’s the greatest. Otherwise you’d give him the benfit of the doubt.. you’d at least wait to hear why he fought the way he did…
If Jordan purposely missed shots and didn’t play for shit because of a grudge. If Mother Theresa gave help to a person and spit in anothers face….. yeah, I’d tell them how to do their job.
@tony
SILVA IS NOT THE BEST. Look at him from Pride days. Was a little punk then, getting tapped out etc… IF GSP fight Sila at 170 I see silva getting tapped out, or maybe out striked. GSP is much faster and has a great takedown and ground game. Silva is a punk. I am 13-2 in Des Moines, Iowa. I am not a pro AT ALL BY FAR. But im so mad I would LOVE to get in the ring with Silva.
@Joe
SILVA IS A PUNK, needs to FINISH guys.
Apart from the Mark Munoz and Kendall Grove fight, the whole pay per view sucked.
I can’t believe I coughed up 40 bucks and stayed up until 2.00am to watch that crap.
If you honestly think GSP is faster and a better striker than Anderson you must be on crack. Whens the last time you’ve actually seen GSP strike? All he does is take you down and sit on you for the rest of the round, he doesn’t even ground n pound anymore so wtfs wrong with that bs? I find that shit 100x more boring then what Anderson Silva did and trust me even though I’m a Anderson fan I still think his fight was stupid he should of just ended it. I don’t like GSP and I’m Canadian but when he sits on you for 5 rounds why doesn’t he get all this headache? Most of all of Anderson’s fights are probably the most exciting fights in MMA history this was the only fight he dissapointed me with. Anderson Silva is the best fighter in the world period, so whos dumbass would put a fighter like Damien in the ring with the most deadliest person on the planet? Thats like putting a Lion in a ring with a human.
@Eric
gsp just lays on people for 5 rounds so u say anderson needs to finish people and if youi think gsp will out strike anderson than your dumb gsp will probably win the fight yes only because he will lay on anderson for 5 rounds. he has only been beat 4 times two dq and one was an amzing submission . he has never been beat in jufc wich is wear the best are .he could have finished the fight at anytime and dominated maia. notice gsp did not say i was not impressed with your performance. and when he knocks out next opponent all haters will fall back period. itwas not the right thing to do on andersons part. he is still the best
@ty
my bad itwas a flying scissor heel hook and was dqed once, and one split decision and one triangle and no one said he was best then but he learned from mistakes and is now the best
@Joe
Jordan WAS taught how to play basketball. You, me and everyone else here, somewhere along the way, are taught through training, trial & error. All of this to say that every fighter, including Silva, who has the heart to fight…the true desire, NEVER stops learning. To say we are haters who don’t and can’t fight is quite an assumption. I happened to have spent the majority of my life in the ring as a successful fighter and now pass my knowledge and training on to others with the same desire. I’m sure there are many more fans here who can say the same. You should be careful what you say especially if you’re one of the “armchair” fighters who get their training from sitting in front of the TV watching the PPV events or playing UFC on the XBOX. I’m not trying to insult you for your opinion. I’m merely pointing out that you should think before you speak.
Maia didn’t run from Silva. He played it smart and kept his distance hoping for the opportunity to strike. Silva was the one running around like an idiot. It doesn’t matter how unhappy he may have been with the opponent given to him. He had a job to do. If he wanted to make a statement, why not a one-punch KO? Why not 5 rounds of severe punishment? That’s how you earn respect. Instead, because of his immaturity, he lost respect and many fans. Can he redeem himself? We’ll have to wait and see.
When asked why he “fought” the way he did, he stumbled around the question. He’s had time to make up a good answer now. I’m ready to hear it.
@Eric
SHOUT YOUR MOUTH YOU ACT LIKE A CRYING BABY..YOU WANT TO FIGHT SILVA? IN YOUR DREAMS!!!
lol bro, you have to look at the fight in deeper details. Anderson silvas whole fighting style is defensive. He will jump in and out and do little damage but when he reallly explodes and knocks people the fuck out like chris lebel, rich franklin, and rocked dan henderson many times they’re all rushing him and trying to take him out. Thats what he likes. I agree its completely gay. But listen, the guy doesn’t want to lose. All these fighters are strategists nowadays. And itss smart, everyone should want the best strategy going into a fight. Going in against maia, anderson is not going to want to go to the ground at all, he’s been submitted in pride multiple times. So that leaves standup, and he’s defensive. If maia doesn’t engage and try to rush him nothing exciting is going to happen. Thats why they say, “styles make fights.” Imagine trying to live up to all the hype of being the best pound for pound fighter in the world. Your going to take every angle to make sure that you dont lose lol. Also, just some insight for you. Anderson vs Machida might just be the most boring fight there ever could be in ufc. Look at their standup lol. They’re both defensive, neither one would EVER go in first. So it would turn out to be boring as fuck then everyone would start to bag on both, anderson and machida. People keep blaming anderson but dana white should match him up better. People want to see him knock the other fighters the fuck out. So dont send in maia or leites that are going to be a pussy when it comes to standup, and never engage. What the fuck do you think is going to happen.
@Max
not fighting in a fight is disrespectful, and like you said, he pulled back, and they didn’t like it.
@RickyB
One of the most intelligent comments I have seen, I agree totally, Cain Valasquez is the guy to teach Anderson he can’t keep doing shit like this if he wants to be the best.
Im not disagreeing with who ever said the fight sucked or that it was disrespectful because I think that was one of the most disrespectful acts in the UFC. But Anderson told everybody including Dana White before the fight even happened that if he is put in a ring with someone who is not worthy to fight him he will not “finish” the fight. So if he said that why would Dana White still put someone like Damien in the ring with him? I understand that Vitor was injured and Demien was the only healthy person ready to fight him in that weight division but come on did he honestly expect that Anderson vs Damien would be a good fight… He knew that Anderson was gonna kick his ass no problem which he did but didn’t “finish” the fight because he’s a man of his word and if he said hes not gonna fight someone thats not worthy to fight him that means that he is not gonna fight him and I’m sure that Dana has that in his head now and won’t make a stupid mistake like that again. True fighters want a challenge (I’m not saying to go all crazy and disrespect your oppenent) but he felt at the time that it would work and get him a better fight which I belive it will. Andrson has wanted to move up to heavyweight for as long as I can remember. He even said that someday he will want to fight Brock Lesnar, he’s even saying he wants to fight GSP now. You think he would of been doing the same shit that he did if he was in the ring with Brock Lesnar or GSP?
that is why he is steppin up to light heavyweight. because he wants better fighters to fight
@Nolan
I’m not really sure who your comment is dircted toward or if it’s even directed toward an individual. Regardless, I’m glad you brought it up. I agree with you 100% on Silva’s defensive fighting style. I (as well as many others) just feel that he should’ve entertained as a fighter instead of as an “actor”. Personally, I was pulling for Silva to win. Just not in the manner that he did. The more the fight went on, the more disheartened I became and honestly it wouldn’t have hurt my feelings to see him laying on the mat twitching =D.
@Everyone
This turned out to be a popular thread. I’m not here to insult anyone nor to be insulted. I’m merely stating my own opinion and enjoying the opinions of others whether we agree or not. If we all agreed, the thread would SUCK!
Its a Frikkin’ fight! everyone likes tauting when tito goes in the ring and starts pushing the ref and hitting guys after the bell and even giving the middle finger to the opponents corner men. But suddenly when silva does some taunting rogan and dana get all bent out of shape. the respect for an opponent should be before and after the fight. many fighters say that once they get in the ring they have no respect, so why doesnt everyone shut the F**k up and try to knock silva out? No1 can beat him so I guess the only thing to do is to run your mouth…
Silva disrespected us all, and the UFC.
If he was SOOO much better than Maia then he should have finished him, not run away for more than 3 rounds! Yes Silva is very good, fast, and better at stand up than most all of his opponents. That is no reason to act like he did, I have been a fighter for 20 years and have never seen a fighter act like Silva did! Anyone that ever came close to that kind of crap was shown the door, martial arts is more than just beating people, but it would seem Silva as well as some of you just don’t get it…
This is not the first time Silva has done this type of thing, and his ‘oh, sorry…’ doesn’t wash with me or most of the true mma fans.
By the way, I have been a Silva fan for many years. I bought the ppv and invited 14 people over mainly to watch him, I have never been so embarrassed! I told people that they were going to get to see a great fighter and fight, I talked him up and recommended this ppv to others… wow… I feel like a heel…
Wow, i am absolutley stunned about some of the comments in favour of Silva, all that really needs to be said is take a look at some of the best sports people in the world in their respective sports, none of them carry on the way Silva did, MMA or the UFC will never progress in todays sporting world as long as guys like Silva are around, i know how good the guy is however if you have no fans there is no sport, and make no mistake about it all those in favour of Silva, you are the minority and yes it’s fine for you guys to be aggresive towards the majority because lets face it, it is human nature to lash out when a person feels insecure about a situation. To the majority, lets keep supporting the sport we love based on the values we believe in, if we do that, our UFC will continue to grow and move in the RIGHT direction and we can continue to enjoy the fighters who want to entertain us and be the best they can be, much respect for all you guys who have come out and voiced your opinion against what Silva did.
@NyTeMair
and
@Mark
Very good points from both of you. Silva’s future is in his own hands.
I watched all the fights on the card and i was entertained by the Anderson Silva fight. Like others i at first was wondering why Silva didn’t finish him when i am quite sure he could of put him out anytime he wanted after the second round. It appeared to me that given that his opponent was a bloody mess and clearly out-classed Anderson took pity on him and didn’t want to risk doing permanent damage. Anderson is a world class fighter who only looks to win a match anything more than that is unnecessary unless you think mma is best when people get disabled or die.
In the future the ufc should consider matching Silva against real contenders instead of people who have no chance to survive a 5 round bout with him.
Was there anyone who watched the fight besides Dana White who thought Silva needed to throw a bigger beating on that guy in order to win ?
KTD became a fan of netball or golf and express your girly feelings there. Mma is not for u. Pansy. You don’t understand mma fighting.
@ktd
Your a Pansy.
I think what ktd was getting at was that there are still some people in the world who care about the honour of the sport, and of martial arts. It is true that people want to see people get knocked out or submitted, or at least have an entertaining fight, but we don’t need people who walk in to injure people (which some do)-Sobral for example. I’m not saying what ktd said was acurate or true, it just seems like people blew it out of proportion, when all we’re trying to do is celebrate the honour that some of our fighters still have.
Mai said he want to stand up just enough to bring Anderson silva down to tap him out Anderson gave 25 min to do it.
