For the most part, anyone who has anything to do with Mixed Martial Arts has shared an opinion or two on UFC heavyweight contender Alistair Overeem’s recently failed drug test. Among those with something to say was Chael Sonnen, the outspoken middleweight challenger set for a collision with rival Anderson Silva this summer in Brazil.
“I’m shocked. (He) has the body fat of a tooth brush (and) looks like the guy on Street Fighter. My mind is blown, just blown,” Sonnen sarcastically wrote on Twitter.
Apparently his comments didn’t sit well with fellow UFC 185er Jason Miller who took Sonnen to task for what he felt was a hypocritical stance given Sonnen’s own past issue with testosterone use.
“Chael berating someone on their test level is like me making fun of someone’s bad haircut,” wrote Miller (also on Twitter). Sonnen was handed a yearlong suspension based on an issue with testosterone use after his original meeting with Silva in 2010.
Sonnen caught wind of the remarks, firing back a salvo of his own, saying, “MayHem: Due to time constraints I am currently confining my Twitter wars to active, relevant, fighters ONLY. Buy a T-shirt on your way out.”
“Don’t worry – you’re a beatdown away from obscurity,” Miller quickly retorted. “I’ll be happy to beat your head in – that’s if it’s not still on a pike in Rio.”
While a meeting in the immediate future between the two seems far fetched given the division’s current status, anything is possible down the road. Sonnen fights Silva in June while Miller is matched with CB Dollaway over Memorial Day Weekend at UFC 146.
