Dana White says Frank Mir is fighting Cain Velasquez, not Junior dos Santos

The plot thickens!

While many fans and media-members have speculated Frank Mir would replace Alistair Overeem in lieu of the Dutchman’s positive drug test, it looks like that won’t be the case after all even if Overeem is indeed denied his license to fight as expected. The shocking revelation came today from UFC President Dana White who took to Twitter to say, “Mir vs. Cain will happen.”

The well-rounded heavyweight is scheduled to take on fellow former champion Cain Velasquez at UFC 146 where Overeem is booked in a title-bout against Junior dos Santos. The winner of Mir-Velasquez is expected to emerge as the #1 contender to the divisional strap.

Mir Willing to Fill in for Overeem

If Mir is indeed off the table (along with Velasquez) the UFC will be in an interesting position given the lack of challengers who are free at the moment. An online campaign has recently attempted to build momentum for a match-up featuring Mark Hunt, while Dan Henderson has also taken to Twitter to throw his name in that hat. Henderson beat heavyweight Fedor Emelianenko in his final Strikeforce appearance.
