UFC light heavyweight Gegard Mousasi not only took a tilt with Ilir Latifi on less than a week’s notice despite having a great deal more to lose in the match-up than his relatively unknown adversary and delivered come showtime, beating the Swede by way of Unanimous Decision. With a win in the Octagon under his belt, Mousasi is looking down the road at potential pairings and sees countless options.
Mousasi spoke to Fuel TV during the network’s post-event coverage for UFC on Fuel 9 where he said he’s open to suggestion for his next scrap even if it may not come for awhile based on some health-related issues he experienced leading up to the show.
“I had a knee injury and a cold, but I trained for a fight so I wanted to fight. It was a risky fight. I tried to be precise and was slowly breaking him down. Maybe if we went five rounds I would have finished him.”
“I trained on the jab and we stuck to the game plan. The distance was good. He’s a shorter guy. If you keep the distance, and you stuff a couple of their takedowns, then the wrestlers don’t want to shoot. I didn’t take a lot of risks.”
“Next fight, I’m willing to fight anyone.”
