It looks like “The Last Emperor” will head back home for his next fight after competing in Japan on New Year’s Eve. According to M-1 Global official Evgeni Kogan, Fedor Emelianenko has been booked to fight this summer in St. Petersburg, Russia.
Unfortunately, at this point, the PRIDE icon’s opponent is still up in the air. The June 21 event has not been named either though it will likely to come under the M-1 Global label.
Emelianenko had a successful outing in Russia this past November, taking out seasoned veteran Jeff Monson via Unanimous Decision. The victory was the first for the 35-year old Emelianenko since a three-fight slide in Strikeforce. Including his knockout of Satoshi Ishii in December he will be going for a trio of consecutive wins in front of his countrymen this summer.
One option for Emelianenko could be Bobby Lashley, who MMAJunkie confirmed as a distinct possibility with an unnamed source attached to the event. Lashley is 7-1 in his career including back-to-back triumphs in his last two outings.
