This summer, talented lightweight Gesias “JZ” Cavalcante will continue his quest to achieve status as one of the division’s best after holding the distinction a few years back prior to injury issues hampering his efforts inside the ring. Cavalcante’s next outing will come on May 19 at a Strikeforce event in San Jose and feature apt adversary Isaac Vallie-Flagg standing across from him in the cage.

Strikeforce confirmed the match-up this week. In addition to the lightweights’ bout, the card is also highlighted by fights including Mike Kyle-Rafael Cavalcante, Gilbert Melendez-Josh Thomson, and Daniel Cormier-Josh Barnett.

Strikeforce Announces Major May Event

Cavalcante was last seen picking up a Split Decision this past July, putting him back on the winning track after a slide seeing him lost three of four fights. The American Top Teamer holds an overall record of 16-4 with success against some solid opposition including Caol Uno, Michihiro Omigawa, and Vitor Ribeiro.

The 12-3 Vallie-Flag is 1-0 since joining Strikeforce and is backed by the momentum of a three-fight winning streak and victories in nine of his last ten tussles (the lone exception being a Draw). Eight of his triumphs have involved some form of finish.
