Dan Henderson-Daniel Cormier Bout Just Got More Interesting

According to a report on “UFC Tonight” Wednesday, once the Dan Henderson-Daniel Cormier bout is officially booked, it will carry heavy significance with it.

The two are expected to face off at UFC 175 this July, with the winner receiving the next crack at the light heavyweight title – after Alexander Gustafsson.

Henderson (30-11) is coming off a TKO victory over Mauricio “Shogun” Rua that snapped the first three-fight losing skid of his career. He was originally scheduled to face Jon Jones for the belt at UFC 151, but a knee injury suffered just weeks prior to the fight postponed not only the championship match, but cancelled the entire card.

Since that fateful injury, Henderson has dropped split decisions to Lyoto Machida and Rashad Evans, along with a knockout loss to Vitor Belfort. He is also looking at different ways to keep his body at peak condition after the banning of TRT use.

Cormier (14-0) made a successful debut at light heavyweight after winning 13 fights as a heavyweight. He stopped Patrick Cummins earlier this year, and is a former U.S. Olympic wrestler like Henderson.

The eventual title fight for either Henderson or Cormier would still be months away. Jones defends his belt vs. Glover Teixeira later this month, and Gustafsson will get the next crack sometime after that.
