A good deal of doubt was cast on whether UFC light heavyweight Alexander Gustafsson would be cleared to take to the cage this weekend at UFC on Fuel 9 where he is set to face Gegard Mousasi for top contendership in front of his fellow Swedes. Gustafsson suffered a serious cut in the gym during one of the last sparring sessions of his camp and, according to multiple reports, would be forced to withdraw as a result.
Though UFC President Dana White may not have the same authority as an athletic commission, the outspoken executive recently eased fans’ fears by revealing Gustafsson was still green-lit at this point in time.
The SAC has not said he can’t fight and he wants to fight,” said White through UFC Tonight reporter Ariel Helwani. White also said the main event match-up at Saturday’s show was “still on” until he was told otherwise by a regulatory official.
