UFC Officials have confirmed today that UFC Mddleweight Chris Camozzi will step in for the injured C.B. Dollaway at UFC On FX in Brazil. Camozzi has agreed to step in on short notice to face Cezar Ferreira on the main card set to go down on May 18, and according to a statement received by Fighters.com from his management, this type of opportunity was the exact reason Camozzi went right back into the gym after his decision win over Nick Ring at UFC 158 in Montreal.
“Cezar is an amazing athlete and he wouldn’t be faced off with me if he wasn’t the hometown hero,” Camozzi explained. “For me it is just another tough opponent, that is all there is at this level. I have been asking Joe Silva to keep me busy, let me fight whoever you have. Sometimes he tells me I am not ready and other times I get these opportunities. That is why I went right back to the gym after the Ring fight. I want to be ready for whatever and whenever the UFC needs me. Cezar has a lot of power, he is talented and I am excited to fight him.”
Jason Genet, Camozzi’s manager and President of Ingrained Media, echoed the same sentiment. The timing and match up has fit right into what they would hope to accomplish this year going forward. “After the Nick Ring fight we told Joe Silva we would love to be a fill in for just about any fight that will elevate Chris to the next level. CB, Belcher etc were a few of the names we were asking about,” Genet revealed. “Obviously an opponent of CB’s and a TUF winner, something CB was unable to do, is exactly the type of fight that will keep Chris on the main cards and heading into contender mode.”
UFC On FX 8: Belfort Vs Rockhold takes place on on May 18 at Arena Jaragua in Santa Catarina, Brazil. Middleweights Vitor Belfort and former Strikeforce Champion Luke Rockhold will meet in the main event.
