Former WEC champion Urijah Faber remains rivals with Dominick Cruz. But that doesn’t mean he isn’t interested in seeing him return to the Octagon.
Cruz has been away from the sport since a 2011 victory over Demetrious Johnson. He’s undergone two knee surgeries and a recent groin issue, with the latter costing him the UFC bantamweight title.
Before he faced Johnson, Cruz scored a decision over Faber to even the score between the two former WEC fighters at 1-1. “The California Kid” is hoping that before long, they get another chance to meet up.
“I would love to have that fight,” said Faber, during a recent interview with The Roar. “People have asked me which fights I want. If we can make it happen, let’s do it.
“If not, I’m ready for whoever they say.”
That 2007 submission victory by Faber in WEC is the lone loss for Cruz to date.
Faber had a four-fight win streak snapped by Renan Barao this past February. He was tabbed by UFC officials to replace Cruz in that contest.
If you are having trouble remembering how much these two “loved” each other while coaching on The Ultimate Fighter, here’s a video of them exchanging pleasantries.
