UFN 24 fallout: Michael McDonald out indefinitely with possible broken hand after "Fight of the Night"

The ultra-impressive Michael McDonald is a breed of fighter that I think we will become accustomed to in the mixed martial arts world. While McDonald may be considered a heavy handed striker, he is also a touted Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu brown belt, as well as an adept wrestler when it comes to mixed martial arts–all at the ripe old age of 20.

To be so young, and so good will only amount to the pressure that he will surely be feeling when he returns to the octagon for his next bout. However, after sustaining a hand injury in his “Fight of the Night” win over fellow newcomer Edwin Figueroa at ufc Fight Night 24 last Saturday, me way have to wait and see when McDonald will be allowed back–as well as a number of other fighters.

In a hard-fought battle that lasted the entire three-rounds last Saturday, McDonald dominated Figueroa, though Edwin never gave up an inch throughout the bout and did the best that he could on just a little over two-weeks notice. In the end, both men’s stocks only rose in the bantamweight class, however McDonald may have paid a bigger price.

In UFC President Dana White’s video blog following the UFC Fight Night 24 event, it was revealed that Michael has sustained a hand injury which could have resulted in an fractured metacarpal in his right hand.
