TUF 13 winner Tony Ferguson receives another new opponent for FOX fight

After learning two weeks ago Thiago Tavares was replacing an injured Dennis Hallman, UFC lightweight Tony Ferguson has yet another new adversary to prepare for after Tavares apparently went down in training as well and will be unable to recover in time for their scheduled match-up. Filling in for the Brazilian will be Michael Johnson, an Ultimate Fighter finalist who is coming off a victory over Shane Roller.

The UFC recently confirmed the change to the UFC on FOX 3 lineup giving both men about five weeks to prepare for the fight.

Ferguson has been on a tear since winning TUF 13, taking out Aaron Riley and Yves Edwards in consecutive clashes. “El Cucuy” holds an overall record of 13-2 with eleven finishes including eight TKOs.

Comparably, Johnson is 10-6 with a 2-1 record since falling to Jonathan Brookins on TUF 12. The 25-year old has never been beaten by way of strikes, adding an interesting facet to the May 5 meeting considering Ferguson’s impressive stand-up.

UFC on FOX 3 is headlined by Jim Miller meeting Nate Diaz for #1 contendership in the lightweight division with other featured fights including Alan Belcher vs. Rousimar Palhares, Pat Barry vs. Lavar Johnson, and Josh Koscheck vs. Johny Hendricks.
