UFN 24: "The Korean Zombie" submits Leonard Garcia

A lot of anticipation, a lot of expectation’s surrounded the rematch pitting Leonard Garcia and Chan Sung Jung earlier tonight.
Their first bout was one for the ages, and even UFC commentator Joe Rogan dubbed the bout as “fight of the decade”. And often times, rematches never really live up to the hype of the initial meeting, and this bout was no different.
While there wasn’t a whole lot of wild exchanges, or knockdowns galore as per the Leonard Garcia formula, there was a spectacular finish–the first of it’s kind inside the octagon, and we have Eddie Bravo to thank.
The first round of the Garcia-Jung rematch was contentious. Both men circled one another for the majority of the round, with both men getting their licks in, however nothing that was reminiscent of their original “brawl” of a meeting. At the end of the round, Jung managed to work Garcia to the mat in a scramble and mounted quickly, worked to Leonard’s back and closed out the round with some good ground-and-pound action.
The next round had shades of the first, with both men getting into a few good exchanges, however just as the heat turned up and “The Korean Zombie” egged on “Bad Boy” to wade in with wild blows, Leonard tripped on a high kick and Jung met him on the mat. From there, Jung was again able to work to Garcia’s back early, though he had just 30 seconds or so to work in the round.
It was just enough time for Jung to lock up an arm, secure a leg with his own, and hunt for Leonard’s head, in what turned out to be an Eddie Bravo-esque submission known as “the twister”, and with just one second remaining in the round, the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu brown belt in Garcia tapped out from the spine-crushing hold.
The victory snapped a two-fight losing skid for Jung, and he now has properly been introduced to the UFC.
The submission win should be an early candidate for “Submission of the Night” as Joe Rogan pointed out, it was the first of it’s kind done inside the octagon. An elated Jung credited Youtube videos done by the aforementioned Eddie Bravo for the victory.
Thank you, Eddie.
So, MMA peeps, what do you think of the submission win? Great performance by Jung, and it looks like it might be a stamp on the rivalry, but who knows–would you like to see the rubber match? Sound off in the comment section below.
