Mauricio “Shogun” Rua was on the wrong end of another thrilling bout with Dan Henderson Sunday night in the main event of UFC Fight Night 38, as the former champion was stopped in the third round.
After controlling much of the action through the first 10 minutes, Rua was caught by Henderson’s right hand, suffering his first TKO finish since a 2011 loss to Jon Jones.
“I guess that’s what makes MMA exciting, but losing huts a lot,” Rua posted on Twitter Monday. “Now I want to enjoy my wife and daughters for a while.”
Rua (22-9) has posted just a 2-3 mark since a 2011 loss to Henderson in a bout widely-regarded as the “Fight of the Year.”
He called Henderson “a legend” and added that “I did my best.”
