Former staple champions for the UFC, light heavyweight “Iceman” Chuck Liddell (21-7) and one-time middleweight “Ace” Rich Franklin (26-5), will matchup in the main event of UFC 115 in Vancouver June 12, according to a Fighters Only Report and confirmed by MMA Junkie.
Liddell was scheduled to fight “Huntington Beach Bad Boy” Tito Ortiz (15-7-1) after their stints as coaches on SpikeTV’s The Ultimate Fighter 11 reality television contest.
However, evidently Franklin had to take over as a coach from Ortiz due to unknown reasons. MMA Junkie reports Franklin and Liddell have verbally agreed to fight at the conclusion of the program.
Thirty-nine year old Liddell has been laid out by third-ranked “Shogun” Mauricio Rua (18-4) and fourth-ranked “Sugar” Rashad Evans (14-1-1) on his last two missions in the Octagon, but comes off a long hiatus during which he was inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame.
Franklin was TKO’d by eighth-ranked middleweight “Phenom” Vitor Belfort (18-8) in a 195-pound catchweight fight at UFC 103 in Dallas last September.
