Bellator 36 weigh-in results; Kheder refuses to come to the scale, nixed from tourney; Shockley takes his place

With the season-four tournament coming to ahead later tonight on MTV2, Bellator Fighting Championships was faced with a dilemma that seemingly resolved itself over the course of just a few hours, though it did take some hair pulling action from the promoters to come up with a just solution.

Ferrid Kheder, an Olympic Judoka, was scheduled to take part of the upcoming lightweight tournament, opposite of veteran and two-time season finalist Toby Imada, however it wasn’t meant to be.

Kheder never made it to the scales for what would have been his Bellator debut, which suggested that he must have been well over the required weight limit of 155-pounds, which would have allowed a one-pound allowance as per the Louisiana State Athletic Commission.

In his place, Josh Shockley has now been bumped up to the main-card after originally having been relegated to the preliminary portion of the MTV2 broadcast event opposite of Kelvin Hackney. In doing so, Josh will now be part of the prestigious lightweight tournament, which this year boasts big named talent like the aforementioned Imada, who is remembered for his “Submission of the Year” performance against Jorge Masvidal, as well as former WEC lightweight champion “Razor” Rob McCullough.

The rest of the weigh-in proceedings went without a hitch, though it looked as if several other fighters failed to make weight, such as Hackney, Matt Hunt, and Javon Duhon, however Bellator officials failed to make any comments regarding the matter.

Here are the full results, courtesy of MMAJunkie.com:

MAIN CARD

Patricky Freire (155.2) vs. Rob McCullough (155.8)
Toby Imada (155.8) vs. Josh Shockley (156)*
Carey Vanier (155.2) vs. Lloyd Woodward (155.4)
Mike Chandler (156) vs. Marcin Held (155.2)

PRELIMINARY CARD

Kelvin Hackney (156.6) vs. TBA*
Kevin Aguilar (145) vs. Matt Hunt (150.2)
Kelly Leo (185.2) vs. Chad Leonhardt (185.6)
Booker Arthur (144.6) vs. Javon Duhon (149.4)

For the time being, Hackney will have to wait and see if he can get an opponent on such short notice, but it looks like it may be a case of “too little, too late”.
