Renan Barao Battling Eddie Wineland at UFC 161

Fans in Winnipeg, Manitoba have a slew of solid scraps on the horizon after the UFC revealed a number of match-ups slated for the organization’s June 15 show in Canada. Not only have bouts between Mauricio Rua-Antonio Rogerio Nogueira and Dan Henderson-Rashad Evans been confirmed, but it looks like divisional gold will be on the line as well thanks to a tilt between bantamweights Renan Barao-Eddie Wineland.

UFC President Dana White confirmed the UFC 161 headliner to ESPN.

Barao, the interim champion, holds an overall record of 30-1 with thirty straight wins to his credit. Among his victims are Scott Jorgensen, Urijah Faber, Brad Pickett, and most recently Michael McDonald. The fight against Wineland will mark the Brazilian’s second defense of his belt while waiting for Dominick Cruz to recover from two torn ACLs.

The 20-8-1 Wineland is coming off back-to-back victories and is a dangerous finisher with fifteen stoppages on his record including an impressive knockout of Jorgensen last June.
