UFC middleweight champ Anderson Silva hasn’t put his gold up for grabs since beating Chael Sonnen in highlight-reel fashion last July. However, that will change nearly a year to the day after his win, as “The Spider” has been linked to a July 6 scrap with Chris Weidman at UFC 162.
The match-up has not been officially announced though Newsday reportedly confirmed the matter with UFC CEO Lorenzo Fertitta.
Silva (33-4) is 16-0 inside the Octagon including wins over Rich Franklin, Dan Henderson, Vitor Belfort, Forrest Griffin, and Sonnen (X2). Comparably, Weidman is 9-0 and seen as a major threat to Silva’s reign based on his combination of top-level wrestling and powerful punching.

I’d put money on Weidman getting hurt again before then. He’s made of glass.
Hopefully this sets up Silva vs. Jon Jones in NYC at some point this fall/winter.
Who said Silva is ducking Weidman?!? I think he’s gonna smash Mr. Undefeated.
