UFC lightweight Diego Sanchez’s return to the division started out on the wrong note yesterday when the original Ultimate Fighter winner came in two pounds heavy for his tilt with Takanori Gomi at UFC on Fuel 8. Rather than attempt to shed the extra weight, Sanchez opted to be penalized a percentage of his purse for the infraction based on an inability to slim down any further.
Sanchez took to Twitter today to explain what happened, saying he did his best to make the 156-pound limit but an error in judgment prevented him from doing so. He also made it clear he wasn’t happy about the blemish or its effect on his bank account.
“It’s complicated. Made a mistake in my distilled water cut. Then in AM I cut all day last two pounds were not coming out period.”
“Gomi better not be crying I missed weight after I win because those two pounds cost 24 thousand dollars. If I could have cut it I would have.”
