Former title-contender Gabriel Gonzaga will welcome Strikeforce heavyweight Shane del Rosario over Memorial Day Weekend as part of a still-developing UFC 146 lineup already including bouts between CB Dollaway-Jason Miller and Dan Hardy-Duane Ludwig. Both men are coming off wins in their latest outings and have remarkably finished every single opponent they’ve beaten (24/24 total).
News of the match-up was reported on the UFC’s website.
Gonzaga, who was released in early 2011, made his return to the Octagon at UFC 142 where he knocked out Brazilian prospect Ednaldo Oliveira in the opening round of action. The win improved Gonzaga’s record to 13-6 with past victories over Carmelo Marrero and Mirko Filipovic.
“Napao” Feels UFC has Always Been his Home
Del Rosario has been out of action for a year after being in a serious car crash while preparing for a bout against Daniel Cormier. Prior to the loss the 11-0 Del Rosario had earned first-round stoppages in ten of his eleven instances of success with the lone exception involving a TKO triumph just a minute into the scrap’s second stanza.
UFC 146 is scheduled for May 26 in Las Vegas. No headliner has been announced though Junior dos Santos is expected to defend his heavyweight title at the even against streaking Dutch powerhouse Alistair Overeem.
