Randy Couture Cornering Ryan Couture at UFC on Fuel 9

UFC President Dana White blasted Hall of Fame fighter Randy Couture after “The Natural” inked a deal to work with Spike TV/Bellator, going so far as to say Couture wouldn’t be allowed to attend UFC events. Making the matter trickier than normal, Couture’s son – Ryan Couture – is signed to the UFC roster and often counts on his father for cornering duties.

Though it’s hard to say what will happen after the younger Couture’s official debut this April 6 in Sweden at UFC on Fuel 9, it appears his pop will at least be allowed to provide in-ring insight this time around. According to comments from the regulatory board in Sweden made to Nordic MMA, they leave such decisions up to the fighters themselves rather than the promotion booking an event.

“We don’t have any rules about who can corner an athlete. That’s up to the athlete. We talked to the UFC and they have no problems with anyone corning anyone. I don’t see any problems in this specific case.”

II wonder who they asked at the UFC, and I wonder why the commission is asking in the first place
