Mitch Gagnon Out of UFC 158 Bout with Issei Tamura

The injury ‘curse’ may have only taken a month or two off instead of staying out of the picture for an extended period of time. In the same day as the co-main event of UFC 158: St-Pierre vs. Diaz was changed due to an injured Rory Macdonald, Mitch Gagnon took to Facebook to announce he had to withdraw from of his undercard fight with Issei Tamura at the same event.

The bantamweight sustained an undisclosed injury and he won’t get to fight in front of his countrymen at UFC 158. There is no announcement yet from the UFC confirming the change and it is unclear as to if the UFC plans to find a replacement for the bout.

Gagnon posted:

I am sad to announce that I will no longer be competing at UFC 158. Unfortunately I sustained an injury that puts me out for a while. My heart is broken; I want to compete more than anything in the world. I am sorry to my opponent Issei Tamura and to my fans and sponsors.
I can’t even begin to describe how much the fan support fuels me. It is my mission to make this up to all of you with spectacular future performances. I am going to take this time to continue studying the sport I love so much. My next opponent will be facing a scary and determined human being.
