Former Strikeforce champion Nick Diaz has always danced to the beat of his own drum, opting to approach life the way he wants regardless of the negative impact it might have on his career or the way he’s perceived by others. However, it seemed like Diaz was at least willing to follow the UFC’s lead when it came to his March 16 match-up with Georges St-Pierre.
Diaz attended a January press conference to help hype UFC 158 and appeared to be in good spirits, indicating his days of dodging media appearances could be in the past. Of course, as they say, looks are often deceiving.
UFC President Dana White spoke to media following UFC on Fuel 7 where he revealed Diaz had gone AWOL and skipped out on a few interviews aimed at promoting his scrap with St-Pierre.
“First we gotta get him to show up for the f*cking interviews and then we can do it. How many has he missed, four? Three. He’s missed three.”
“We’ve got a f*cking crew rolling around Stockton not doing a f*cking thing. It costs us a lot of money and we can’t properly sell the fight or Nick Diaz.”
“I knew something was gonna go bad somewhere. That’s Nick.”
