Renan Barao Anxious for Action Against Dominick Cruz

UFC bantamweight Renan Barao has done everything in his power to prove he’s the top dog at 135 pounds, winning 30 fights in a row including five in the Octagon against the likes of Scott Jorgensen, Brad Pickett, Urijah Faber, and most recently Michael McDonald. However, the 25-year old Brazilian will never be able to truly lay claim to the #1 spot without first beating Dominick Cruz (19-1).

A victory over Cruz would also shed the “interim” label from Barao’s UFC belt, leaving the Nova Uniao fighter hungry for a collision with Cruz as soon as “The Dominator” recovers from a torn ACL.

“I feel great. That was the result of a lot of hard work,” said Barao through a translator after his submission of McDonald at UFC on Fuel 7. “I’m waiting for you, Dominick Cruz. Please comeback quick.”

UFC President Dana White also chimed in on the matter when asked for his thoughts on Cruz during Fuel TV’s post-event coverage, replying, ““I love Dominick Cruz. He’s a great champion and a hell of a kid, he works hard, and he’s smart. At least FOX loves him. He’s an analyst, and he can do other things too. I want to see him back here fighting Renan Barao for the championship.”

Why is Cruz even champ anymore? Dude hasn’t fought in more than a year.

McDonald looked good but Barao is “next level” right now. McDonald should be there too in a few years if he keeps progressing.
