Tonight’s coverage of UFC Fight Night 36 continues with our recap of tonight’s FOX Sports 1 main card opening fight between Andy Ogle and Charles Oliveira. The two featherweights kicked the main card off in style as the Brazilian energized the home crowd in Jaragua do Sul, Brazil.
Oliveira Submits Ogle
It took several fights, but the UFC finally got their first finish in Jaragua do Sul as Brazilian Charles Oliveira submitted Andy Ogle. Oliveira needed three rounds to get the submission win, but he was hunting for it in all three rounds. In many ways, the submission was very important for Oliveira to achieve as he constantly sacrificed controlling positions throughout the fight to hunt for the submission. While Ogle was battling, and could have possibly stolen a decision if it went to the cards, he was largely on defense the majority of the fight.
It was over when:
While Ogle was able to escape several submission attempts from Oliveira, he tempted fate one time too many and Oliveira was able to quickly rotate to a tight, and very fast, triangle choke.
For Ogle, he could end up looking for work after falling to 1-3 in his last four. Ogle always battles, but he seems to be just below the skill level needed to advance in the UFC. For Oliveira, there are a lot of options despite being 1-2 in his last three at featherweight, with Dennis Siver is an intriguing matchup for the Brazilian.
