For the third time Brent Weedman emerged a winner in an opening round tournament match, but unfortunately he won’t be advancing to the semifinal field. In his Bellator 86 bout with Marius Zaromskis, Weedman injured his hand and it required surgery. Bellator officials confirmed today that past Welterweight Tournament fighter Bryan Baker will be taking his spot.
Baker will square off against Douglas Lima at Bellator 90 on Thursday, February 21 in Rio Rancho, New Mexico. Baker wasted no time accepting Weedman’s slot in the tournament, saying, “When I got the call, I was ready to rock and rolI. I look at this opportunity as an absolute blessing. With our new child in the picture, this is an opportunity to make my family proud, show everyone what I’ve been working on and let ‘The Beast’ go at it like he always does.”
Baker concluded, “Douglas is a strong, powerful guy, but I’m going to use my reach advantage and show my strength. This is my destiny.”
Bellator CEO Bjorn Rebney was equally as excited, glowing, “You never like to see anyone suffer an injury, especially a quarterfinal winner, but when we learned of Brent’s injury, Bryan was the first guy we had in mind, and like a true professional he jumped at the opportunity.”
