UFC lightweight champion Anthony Pettis doesn’t understand why there would be any kind of resistance to him fighting Jose Aldo next.
Aldo, the reigning UFC featherweight champion, defeated Ricardo Lamas over the weekend and stated a desire to meet Pettis next.
“Showtime,” who was suppose to face Aldo last year before an injury, is currently sidelined but working towards a summer return.
“Who else is there?” asked Pettis, during an interview with MMAjunkie.com. “Benson Henderson just beat (Josh) Thomson, who was supposed to be the top contender.
“Gilbert Melendez already had his title shot. Why not (face Aldo)?”
Pettis submitted Henderson last year to become the UFC champion. He was scheduled to meet T.J. Grant, but that fell apart when Grant was diagnosed with continuing concussion issues. After that, Thomson was given a title fight, but Pettis went down with an injury himself.
