Where's your Outrage at Strikeforce and Scott Coker Over Jay Hieron?

Posted On: January 31, 2010 at 9:29pm

For years I’ve listened to MMA fans spout hateful, irrational conspiracy theories about UFC President Dana White.  White is certainly not above criticism, and you’ll read some of the most biting criticism of White here at Fighters.com.  (Other MMA media outlets wouldn’t dare risking their credentials with Zuffa by criticizing White.  That’s a little something you might not have known…)  But, a lot of the criticism has been just ridiculous, including accusations of thrown fights and paid-off referees.

Scott Coker and his promotion, Strikeforce, have been regarded as a fairer organization for fighters, perhaps justifiably so.

But, now “Thoroughbred” Jay Hieron (16-4) is speaking out, claiming to MMA Junkie that he signed with Strikeforce over the UFC on the promise of a title fight versus Strikeforce welterweight champion “Diablo” Nick Diaz (21-8) that hasn’t materialized.  And, after Hieron’s untelevised unanimous decision over “Diesel” Joe Riggs (31-12) at Strikeforce: Miami Saturday, Heiron is now a free agent.

So, where is your outrage MMA fans?  Where are your conspiracy theories about Scott Coker?  Your profanity, typo laced rants?  Is Coker getting a break from the heat usually directed at White for equivalent behavior?

(P.S. I would’ve added a photo of Hieron to this post, but…Strikeforce didn’t provide any of the Hieron versus Riggs fight in their press release this morning, almost as if they don’t want too much focus on Hieron now that he’s a free agent.)

Hieron is really getting a raw deal and what’s worse is that even if he resigns with Strikeforce, he won’t get the next title shot. Coker already said that the next title shot will likely go to Mach Sakurai.

I’m not sure Hieron can use the UFC as an option either, because White said he would not sign fighters in the EA Game.

It is pretty obvious to me that Strikeforce is protecting their stars and giving them easy matches. Hieron is a match up nightmare for Diaz, but Sakurai plays right into Diaz’s strengths.

Also, Sims vs. Lashley? Give me a break. Strikeforce does understand business though. At least they are protecting their assets, but jeopardizing their integrity.

I like Jay Hieron a lot, want the best for him and wish him all the success in the world. But I would not like to see him fight Nick Diaz. Because, like most Strikeforce fans, I like Nick Diaz even more. Diaz is the perfect anti-hero, the noble savage; the pure-hearted thug. And Jay Hieron would probably beat Diaz, albeit in a less than spectacular fashion. Scott Coker knows this, that people watch these events not just to see Diaz and Cung Le fight, but to see them win. Nothing ruins a weekend like a fan favorite being upset by some bland bobby.
If Hieron wants to fight Diaz, tell him to first do something Diaz-ish or Tupac-ish like beat somebody down after his fight or pop a cap in the ass of some cop that’s harassing some Black people.

I understand a lot of the strategic bullshit SF does in order to be succesful
but enough already. Jay has options and deserves better. Do your homework and you will see what i mean. I believe Ufc will make an offer and this this time he will go to them, eventhough SF is gonna offer a good payday.
PS couldnt watch fight on easports.com
PS production for SF Showtime is very bad
PS SCOTT COKER gets 2 thumbs down for selling out sport to reall mma fans.
