UFC star Chael Sonnen is one of the most passionate athletes on the organization’s roster and, as most may have noticed, likes to talk to cameras as well. The two characteristics made Sonnen the perfect candidate for an analyst’s role on UFC Tonight and, fortunately, he won’t always go with the popular opinion either.
Sonnen, making his debut on the weekly program, was asked to pick this weekend’s featherweight title-fight between champion Jose Aldo and top contender Frankie Edgar. Rather than take the easy route by selecting the incumbent, Sonnen actually went with an upset in the UFC 156 headliner.
“I think Edgar is too fast for him. I think he can out-box him, out-wrestle him and, should he need to, out-condition him. I’m taking an upset. I’m taking Frankie Edgar to become the world champion once again. I think they’re going to go 25 minutes and I think it’s going to be a fantastic thing to watch.”
“The story here is that Frankie is battle tested. He’s beaten world champions like Sean Sherk. He beat a world champion in BJ Penn. A lot of people think Edgar should still be the (lightweight) champion.”
