UFC President Dana White said recently that a title-fight between middleweight champion Anderson Silva and top contender Chris Weidman was “closer than we think,” though the statement conflicts with just about everything that has come out of Silva’s camp recently. However, Silva’s manager – Ed Soares – seems to be backing away from previous comments where he has said Silva only wants to fight guys with established names, and is now saying that his star client could be willing to face Weidman in Brazil
Soares told the Brazilian blog Nagradedo MMA:
“Anderson has never refused any fight. If you put it to face the devil, he will fall into. Why did he refuse the Weidman? Simply think he still is not anyone to fight for the belt. I have nothing against Chris, I think it great person, but if you ask anyone, no one knows who he is. They’ll have to spend a lotta money promoting this fight. Anderson has more title defenses than he has of fighting as a professional… Anderson has told me that really wants to fight in Brazil again. Weidman himself once told me that this fight would be interested to do there. So I think that’s what should happen. “
