He may be a novelty, but Herschel Walker can fight! Finishes Carson in the first-round at "Strikeforce: Diaz vs. Cyborg"

It’s amazing to think what Herschel Walker could have done if he would have taken up Jiu-Jitsu or wrestling 20-or-so years ago.

Because at the tender age of 48-years-old, Walker has taken a liking to mixed martial arts, and it shows in his most recent performances, specifically tonight where he impressively dispatched of WEC veteran Scott Carson inside of the first-round of their heavyweight tilt under the Strikeforce banner.

As the bout opened up, Walker was already fired up. The American Kickboxing Academy product stormed after Carson early, however ate a high-kick for his over eagerness. Though he walked right through the strike, Herschel eventually dropped Scott with a hard right-hand to the dome. He followed the action up to the ground with an impressive array of ground-and-pound.

Carson showed his prowess on the ground, as he was able to stifle some of Walker’s strikes while threatening from the bottom with a potential key-lock and knee-bar attempts. However, Herschel showed his patience as he backed away and waited for Scott to make the next move.

Another right-hand dropped Carson again, and follow up punches called a halt to the bout in a little over three-minutes inside of the first-round.

Herschel, the former Heisman Trophy Winner, moves to 2-0 under the Strikeforce banner and remains undefeated as a professional mixed martial artist.

Though it’s unclear where Strikeforce could properly place the aging Walker, he is a novelty to the main-stream fans, however he is a novelty that has now proved his meddle as a true mixed martial artist, and even at 48, he has proven to be one the best pure athletes in the sport.

So, MMA peeps, what did you think of the former NFL star’s performance? Who would you like to see Walker face next? There were talks of potential matches with Dan Severn and Don Frye, both UFC veterans–would that be a case of too much too soon? Sound off in the comment section below.
