Hello once again fans and friends and welcome to another edition of “What If He Wins?”, the series that attempts to both ask and answer the question “what happens if an MMA fighter wins his upcoming fight?”. The subject of today’s entry is former NFL great Herschel Walker, who steps into the Strikeforce cage for the second time at Strikeforce “Diaz vs. Cyborg”. So what if he wins? Here are my thoughts.
Walker will fight at least one more time.
I think both his first fight and this fight will be big confidence-builders for Herschel Walker. Walker is starting from the ground up as an Mixed Martial Artist, but he’s put a tremendous amount of time into training his body and learning the basics. It’s worked for him before, if it works again, I think Walker’s competitive nature will get the better of him and he won’t be able to resist fighting at least one more time. I still don’t think Walker has long as a Mixed Martial Artist, but I strongly suspect we’ll see him back inside the Strikeforce cage if he gets past his upcoming opponent, Scott Carson.
People will begin taking Walker seriously as a Mixed Martial Artist.
Walker is taking this MMA excursion seriously, but not a lot of people seem to be taking him seriously. And that’s a real shame, considering that Walker trains out of the American Kickboxing Academy, one of the most prestigious MMA camps in the world. With another big win under his belt, I think more and more people will begin to see that this isn’t a joke to Herschel Walker, and I predict more and more fans will open up to the idea of giving this man the respect he deserves. It’ll be a welcome change.
The cynics will never leave Walker alone.
Unfortunately, two straight wins won’t appease the hardcore cynics that do nothing but complain. Brock Lesnar won the UFC Heavyweight Championship and people still constantly trash him as a money-hungry glorified pro wrestler that’s all hype and no substance. No matter how many fights Herschel Walker wins, I don’t think he’ll ever silence all of his critics. It’s unfortunate, but they’re definitely not going anywhere anytime soon.
And my final thought on the matter is…
Herschel Walker will attempt a comeback in the NFL.
This goes back to what I said about Walker’s competitive nature and how MMA is boosting his confidence. If Walker goes 2-0 as a professional MMA fighter, I think he’ll have gained the confidence necessary to at least try to make an NFL comeback, rather than just entertain the idea, which is what he’s doing now. I have no idea whether or not the NFL will allow him to play or even if he can still play at an NFL level, since I’ve never been that big of a football fan. But I do think that Walker’s second win in MMA will light a fire under him and he’ll start figuring out what to do in order to once again call the NFL his home.
And what about you, fans and friends? What do you think will happen if Herschel Walker wins at “Diaz vs. Cyborg”?
