More Free (And Legal!) MMA Coming Our Way: How To Watch The Entire Strikeforce Prelims Online

We’re only two days away from Strikeforce’s “Diaz vs. Cyborg” event, featuring a four-fight main card that will be featured live on the Showtime network. Both the Strikeforce Welterweight and Middleweight Championships will be on the line, which is why the event’s main card only features four fights instead of the typical five. But not to fret, Strikeforce fans: it was recently announced that the full six-fight preliminary card will be available to watch for free, live and online and perfectly legal. Here are all the details.
We head to the one and only Sherdog for a report that states that Sherdog itself will be streaming the entire undercard of “Diaz vs. Cyborg” live on their website. With a start time of 8:15 PM ET, the live stream will feature six full fights. Here’s the full list of what fights fans can expect to see on the stream: Nathan Coy vs. Nate Moore, Bobby Stack vs. Isaiah Hill, Eric Lawson vs. Ron Keslar, Germaine de Randamie vs. Stephanie Webber, Lucas Gamaza vs. James Terry, and Jenna Castillo vs. Charlene Gellner.
I’m pretty impressed that Strikeforce is offering up what is basically a second free event in the form of this online Sherdog outing. I’ve watched several streams on Sherdog in the past, and I’ve never had a problem in regards to lag, stuttering, or any other number of technical difficulties. You can always count me in for some free (and legal) live fights online, so I think Strikeforce made the right move in offering up their preliminary card on Sherdog. It’s still the prelims, so it probably won’t earn “must-watch” status, but still… free fights are free fights, and I’m always a fan of free fights.
Strikeforce seems to be following in the lead of the UFC with this recent bit of news, a company that certainly finds itself in a weird position when it comes to their internet ventures. The biggest MMA company in the world continues to break new ground in digital markets, with the recent streaming of four free preliminary fights on Facebook standing out as a big example of the UFC’s progressive thinking. However, this is a company that also frequently wages war against internet piracy, a battle no major media entity has ever been able to beat.
I like how both the UFC and Strikeforce are beginning to tap into the true power of the internet, and I think live, legal streams will play an increasingly major role as technology continues to develop rapidly while both the UFC and Strikeforce enjoy previously-unthinkable levels of success. When used correctly, the internet is a powerful weapon. As a big Strikeforce fan, I’ll do my part and watch the entire show from top to bottom. By making available the entire preliminary card of a live event, Strikeforce is breaking new ground and giving fans what should be a very entertaining night of fights, first online and then on Showtime.
And what about you, fans and friends? Will you be watching the live preliminary card on Sherdog? And what are your feelings on any of the preliminary match-ups and/or “Diaz vs. Cyborg” in general?
