Bellator Fighting Championships has now added a welterweight fighter to their fold, and he is as dangerous as they come.
A one-time veteran of the WEC, Santos is currently on the heels of a five-fight win streak, four of which ended by way of knockout. In fact, what’s more impressive is how many victories the Brazilian dynamo has been able to string together since his inception in the mixed martial arts world in 2000.
Beyond his five-fight streak, Santos has compiled an overall record of 46-6, as per sherdog.com, though TATAME.com who was among several fights that reported the Brazilian’s signing with the organization, claims that “Sapo” holds a record closer to 67-7-1.
In his lone stint in the World Extreme Cagefighting organization, which has since been assimilated with it’s sister promotion in the UFC, he was stopped with a first-round doctor’s stoppage in 2008 against “The Russian Crusher”, Alex Serdyukov.
Santos joins a stacked welterweight class in Bellator, which features the likes of UFC and Strikeforce veteran Jay Hieron, former titleholder Lyman Good and of course the reigning titleholder in Ben Askren.
It’s unclear at this point whether the Brazilian striker, who has finished 25 of his recorded 46 victories by some form of knockout (as per Sherdog), will be featured in the organization’s upcoming welterweight tournament, though he will be a welcomed addition, breathing in new life to a stacked weight-class. The aforementioned Hieron and Good (among others) have already been named as participants in the upcoming tourney.
Among his career highlights, the Brazilian holds victories over former UFC title challenger Jorge Patino and PRIDE veteran Daniel Acacio.
So, MMA peeps, what do you make of the news? Though He is a mystery wrapped in a mystery, there is something to be said about a 10-year veteran with nearly 80 fights entering a welterweight field in an American organization, mostly that the promotion has faith in his skills and talent.
