Bantamweight Miguel Torres’ next opponent became official last night when the UFC revealed the popular bantamweight would take on rising youngster Michael McDonald in April at UFC 145. Torres is coming off a win at UFC 139 but more importantly, at least in terms of his career, returning to the organization after a brief falling out seeing his release from the roster.
UFC 145 is scheduled for Atlanta after previously being associated with Montreal. Mark Hominick is also expected to fight on the card as are number of the combatants linked to the Canadian lineup.
Torres’ tryst with free agency came as the result of him making a joke about rape on Twitter. However, he won UFC President Dana White’s favor back by donating time and money to women’s shelters in the Chicago area and taking a rape sensitivity class. On the MMA front he holds a 40-4 record with wins in three of four since coming over to the Octagon from WEC.

McDonald, who celebrated his 21st birthday last weekend, is 14-1 in his career including success in seven straight scraps. He is coming off a knockout win over Alex Soto in his previous performance though Torres will easily represent the stiffest competition “Mayday” has faced to date.
