With Strikeforce officially off the radar, fighters who called the organization home have started crossing over into the UFC. Two of the company’s biggest stars, Gilbert Melendez and Daniel Cormier, have already been attached to April 20 action at UFC on FOX 7 in Strikeforce’s old stomping grounds of San Jose. Now, another one of the promotion’s stand-outs is seeking a shot to compete at the event in the form of middleweight champion Luke Rockhold.
According to a conversation the 10-1 Rockhold had with MMAFighting, not only is the American Kickboxing Academy product looking to fight at the show but already has an adversary in mind.
“I think Costa Philippou makes the most sense right now. He’s coming off a win, and I think he’s a good opponent. Let’s get it on.”
“I want the fight that gets me to Anderson Silva as fast as I can. I believe I can fight him like no one else can. I want that opportunity because I believe I’m the No. 1 contender. I want to fight Silva before Chris Weidman does because I think he might beat him.”
