Michael Bisping: “Vitor Belfort is the perfect warm-up for Anderson Silva.”

If it sounds like UFC middleweight Michael Bisping is overlooking explosive Brazilian Vitor Belfort in their bout this Saturday night at UFC on FX 7, rest assured he’s not. In fact, Bisping has a ton of respect for Belfort’s ability to dish out damage in the early stages of a scrap and knows he’s a dangerous foe.

However, “The Count” is extremely confident in his own ability to overcome Belfort’s initial attack and wear him down to the point of a finish in their headlining fight. If Bisping is indeed successful in doing so he is expected to receive a crack at champion Anderson Silva and, as he pointed out in a conversation with ESPN, will do so by beating a competitor with skills similar to Silva’s.

“The good thing is Vitor Belfort is the perfect warm-up for Anderson Silva. He’s a southpaw, Anderson’s a southpaw, and they’re both incredible strikers.”

“My skills against a southpaw have definitely improved a lot in this training camp. At the start of the camp I was struggling because things do change due to the stance. But now I’m over those problems.”

“Fingers crossed I get the business done, and then I’ve had the perfect tune-up for Anderson Silva.”
