We’re only midway through January and the MMA world may already have already witnessed the year’s top knockout in the form of Edson Barboza’s scintillating spinning heel-kick KO of Terry Etim (who had never been stopped with strikes prior to last night).
Barboza-Etim opened up the PPV portion of the UFC 142: Aldo vs. Mendes card in fine fashion, battling it out for two full rounds before the finish came at the midway point of the fight’s final frame. Barboza’s knockout earned him an extra $65,000 as the show’s Knockout of the Night, while he also pocketed an additional $65,000 after their bout was named Fight of the Night as well.
As such, Etim also received a $65,000 bonus.
Submission of the Night went to Rousimar Palhares and rightfully so after “Toquinho” locked on to Mike Massenzio’s leg, procuring a Heel Hook and prompt tap-out in the process. Similarly to Etim-Barboza, Palhares received $65,000 for the honor.
