Vince McMahon nixes idea of CM Punk working with Chael Sonnen at UFC on FOX event

A few weeks ago it came to light fan-favorite WWE Champion CM Punk would walk popular UFC middleweight Chael Sonnen down to the Octagon at UFC on FOX 2, an event set to emanate from Punk’s hometown of Chicago. At the time the idea was well-received by all, including WWE head Vince McMahon who had given his blessing, and fans appeared genuinely excited about the prospect of the pairing.

However, McMahon has since changed his mind, not only prohibiting Punk from teaming up with Sonnen during the 185er’s entrance but attending the event at all. While no specific reason was provided it is believed to be related to Brock Lesnar’s contractual status with the UFC.

CM Punk Taking his Talents to the Octagon..Sort Of

News of the change was first reported by freelance MMA journalist FrontRowBrian and has since been confirmed with Punk by MMAFighting.

Beyond his talent inside the Octagon, Sonnen is known for his wit and ability to entertain on the microphone with replies/comments that would make the top promo-cutter in the WWE proud (and apparently did in the form of Punk). He will face Mark Munoz on January 28 at the FOX event where the winner is expected to receive a date with middleweight champion Anderson Silva.
