Now that the ink is dry on UFC lightweight champ Benson Henderson’s new contract, the MMA rumor mill has kicked into full gear as to who his next opponent will be. Currently it’s being reported that Henderson will defend his title against Strikeforce title-holder Gilbert Melendez with the tilt taking place at UFC on FOX 7.
MMAFighting is stating that sources close to the bout point to the match-up being slated for April 20. The card is likely to take place at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, California where Melendez has fought multiple times under the Strikeforce banner.
Strikeforce closed their doors for good this past Saturday night so Melendez will go down as the company’s final 155-pound champion.
