Bellator has made this season’s welterweight tournament official by releasing the brackets. The quarterfinals are set to begin on January 24 at the WinStar World Casino in Oklahoma, and also on the card is a title-fight between current champion Ben Askren and submission fighter Karl Amoussou. The event will also feature the return of Mo Lawal to MMA as he takes on Przemyslaw Mysiala.
One of the changes Bellator has made this year, besides their move to Spike TV, is that they are releasing the brackets for each of the tournaments. In the Welterweight Tournament, the winner of Marius Zaromskis vs. Brent Weedman will take on the winner of Douglas Lima vs. Michail Tsarev. On the other side of the bracket, the winner of José Gomes vs. Raul Amaya will take on the winner of Koffi Adzitso vs. Ben Saunders.
Bellator MMA Chairman and CEO Bjorn Rebney expects this tournament to be exciting, and thinks their second appearance on Spike TV will be a memorable one, boasting, “From top to bottom, our welterweight division has a collection of pure finishers that have put on some wildly entertaining fights. With a Welterweight World Title fight, the debut of King Mo and a stacked welterweight tournament, January 24 is going to be a huge night from WinStar World Casino.”
The event will broadcast LIVE starting at 10 p.m. EST on Spike. The preliminary card will be streamed LIVE and FREE on Spike.com starting at 8 p.m. EST. Tickets for the event are already available.
