Shinzo Machida (1-1), brother of Fighters.com and UFC Light Heavyweight Champion “Dragon” Lyoto Machida (16-0), is primed for a return to the sport in which his brother has risen to the ranks of champion.
Shinzo told Sherdog Thursday, “Actually, I just fought MMA to test myself, because Lyoto was already doing it, but in 2010, fighting in MMA will be one of my goals. I think the 70-kilogram (155 pounds) class will be a nice category for me.”
The karate fighter finished second in the World Shotokan Karate Championships in 2006, the highest ranking ever for a Brazilian.
Shinzo told Sherdog he’d be happy fighting in the UFC or WEC. His previous experiences in MMA were in Brazilian promotion Jungle Fight where we TKO’d Cristiano Rosa (0-1) in 2005 and tapped in a guillotine choke to Bryan Rafiq (5-2) in 2006.
