The UFC’s April 14 event in Sweden is truly becoming an international event with the recent addition of a bout between popular American Brian Stann and Italian slugger Alessio Sakara. With other competitors on the Fuel TV card including Frenchmen, a Brit, and a handful of Swedes the show is starting to look like a United Nations meeting under the guise of a UFC event.
Stann’s scrap with Sakara has been officially announced by the UFC.
Both fighters are coming off defeats with Stann falling short against top middleweight contender Chael Sonnen at UFC 136 and Sakara being outpointed by Chris Weidman last March. Chances are the fight will end in a knockout with both men winning the bulk of their bouts by way of strikes, adding an additional layer of excitement for fans who love good old fashioned fighting albeit at a much more technical level.
Sakara’s biggest victories to date have not quite matched Stann’s success in the Octagon but are respectable nonetheless. The 30-year old ATT product has beaten the likes of James Irvin and Thales Leites, while Stann has claimed victory against Jorge Santiago and Chris Leben.
Other match-ups on the Stockholm-based card include Papy Abedi vs. James Head and DaMarques Johnson vs. John Maguire.
