Dan Henderson Willing to Fight Chael Sonnen if Necessary

Though it would take a few stars aligning, it’s very possible UFC light heavyweight Dan Henderson could end up in a situation where he would have an opportunity to fight longtime teammate and friend Chael Sonnen for the divisional title. Henderson can solidify status as #1 contender if able to defeat Lyoto Machida at UFC 157, while Sonnen faces champion Jon Jones in late April after the two face off on TUF 17.

In the past, other fighters in similar situations have shied away from the notion of throwing down outside of sparring in the gym. However, Henderson has no problem competing against Sonnen if need be and is pretty sure the feeling is mutual.

“We’re friends, but above all we fight now in the same category and therefore have the same goal. We both compete for the same belt.”

“Our friendship is more than a title and we are professional enough to let the rivalry be just inside the Octagon. It would be a different situation, but our profession in this type of situation is quite possible to happen.”
