With his loss at UFC 141 Brock Lesnar’s stint in the MMA world appears to be over, yet as it turns out another WWE Superstar’s is beginning. However, this time around the wrestler in question is none other than current WWE Champion CM Punk and rather than actual step into the Octagon as a competitor he will team up with Chael Sonnen for the outspoken middleweight’s bout against Mark Munoz at UFC on FOX 2.
Punk who hails from Chicago where the event is being held, will walk Sonnen down to the cage. He has been a long time proponent of Mixed Martial Arts and incorporates techniques from the sport in his own moveset.
News of the pairing was first rumored on The Underground and has since been confirmed with sources close to Sonnen via a report on MMAFighting.
A win for Sonnen will earn him a shot this summer at UFC middleweight champ Anderson Silva, his hated rival and the man he nearly defeated for the belt before being tapped out in the final minutes of a 2010 fight. No word has surfaced on whether or not Munoz plans to bring in John Laurinaitis to counter the “Cult of Personality” teaming up.
