UFC welterweight Nick Diaz prefers to stay off the radar as often as possible. Unfortunately, his reclusive ways often result in the opposite effect. For example, Diaz lost out on a title-fight with Georges St-Pierre last year when he opted to skip a pair of press conferences promoting the tilt.
However, with another crack at St-Pierre set up for UFC 158, UFC President Dana White isn’t worried about Diaz behaving in a similar manner and has complete confident that the polarizing pugilist will do whatever it takes to finally get his hands of GSP.
“This is a fight that he wanted. He really wanted this fight bad. And Georges St-Pierre called him out. He’s getting it. So yes, I expect Diaz to be there. You don’t have to call me, you don’t have to text me…but you do have to show up to the press conference. I would be blown away if he did it twice. It just wouldn’t be a good move.”
The thing about Nick Diaz…Nick Diaz shows up for fights. And Nick Diaz shows up and fights his ass off when the fight is there. He’s not a big fan of the pre-fight promotion but you HAVE to do it. You have to do it. Whether you’re Nick Diaz, you’re Anderson Silva…whoever you are, it’s in your contract. You can actually be cut. We can cut you for that. How fun would the press conferences be if nobody f*cking showed up but me? It wouldn’t be too good.”
