Boxing fans in Houston entered the New Year with news of a title-fight on the horizon after watching one slip through their fingers last week when a January 28 defense from WBC junior welterweight king Erik Morales was cancelled. Fortunately it appears that very bout will now take place on March 24 after Golden Boy Promotions was able to book Reliant Stadium where Morales’ match-up with undefeated Danny Garcia (22-0) was originally scheduled to go down.

The change in date was first reported by ESPN where a Golden Boy representative explained, “The Houston fight fans enthusiastically embraced the card and we already had a tremendous amount of tickets sales. We were able to work out something with the arena because they had another event there on that date, but they were able to clear the date. They worked that out on their side and they were very excited about keeping the event there. I coordinated the date with HBO. The fighters have been informed and they’re excited about it.”
Morales originally had to pull out of his pairing with Garcia after having some gallstones removed and needing a month to recover. He holds an overall record of 52-7 and has held belts in four different divisions.
